Summer holidays are almost over. Though it gives me a bit of relief in one way (you will surely know how difficult it is to manage kids who find themselves bored all the time), there are lot of other responsibilities as school starts!!! (from sorting out the uniforms to packing lunch box)
Talking about the Packed lunch, I am somehow(!?) relieved that DD2 will have School lunch (though I am really not sure what and how much she would manage to eat!. However, despite the fact that DD1 loves school lunch, I prefer to send her away with packed lunch atleast twice a week.
I try my best to pack atleast few of the 5 a day (wait, has it recently been changed to 7 a day!?, I am sure that would be a hard work for me) in the lunch box and also insist on hubby to follow the same (Did you just ask if I follow the same!? I do wish however, it is usually when I find plenty of spare time which is unusual)
After the kids are at school, some days just starts with a brunch or few biscuits and tea for breakfast and a quick sandwich with plenty of Veg for the lunch often accompanied by fruits and nuts.
You must have read the blog post about Malnutrition and Muscle loss that we ignore most times and how important it is to have a balanced diet to maintain good health. It is very important to have fresh fruits and vegetables as part of everyday diet and Nuts are vital for bone and muscle health.
Although there is a lot of fear about the pesticides and other chemicals used on produce and the amount of chemicals used to increase the shelf life of the fruits and veg, I was introduced to RealFoods recently who specialises in Vegetarian, Fairtrade, Organic, Gluten-Free, Vegan, Wheat-Free and Special Diet Food. RealFoods, not only have Groceries but also have baking ingredients and Vitamin and Mineral supplements. It was interesting to find some Baking books as well at Real Foods.
If you are looking for options for healthy meal, why not visit their site and see if you can find something that would match your taste!?
Do you send packed lunch to your kids!? What is your favourite lunch box item? I would love it if you could share some of your healthy meal ideas and lunch box ideas.
e-meet you in the next post… Take care…
